SpeedBlade irons take our Speed Pocket™ to the next level, giving golfers an instrument that will change the nature of their approach shots to help them hit more greens and shoot lower scores. SpeedBlade is radically differently than any other iron in terms of look, speed, launch, spin, feel, sound.

Visually, SpeedBlade irons are striking, combining a two-tone, satin nickel chrome plating with dark smoke satin ion plating (IP). Internally, the key performance feature that separates SpeedBlade from the pack is the Speed Pocket, a handle-bar shaped slot in the sole of the 3-7 irons that enables a large area of the face to flex and rebound at impact, resulting in faster ball speed, higher launch and better feel.

The Speed Pocket performs where golfers need it most. Our research indicates that 72% of shots by 5- to 25-handicappers are impacted below the center of the face, which typically results in low-launching shots of inconsistent distance. The Speed Pocket helps you launch those low-impact shots on a consistently higher, longer carrying and softer-landing flight.

The improved Speed Pocket has been widened and lengthened, giving golfers more face area toward the toe and heel that promotes a high launch angle, strong ball flight and a steep, quick stopping descent angle. The Speed Pocket also features a cut through slot internally, which allows for more flex and rebound on the bottom part of the face, making the SpeedBlade iron set the fastest face TaylorMade has ever created, measuring right up to USGA COR limit.

Critical to the performance and visual appeal of SpeedBlade irons is their progressive shaping throughout the set. The slender topline and sole in the short irons promote better workability, feel and control. The long irons feature a bigger topline to inspire confidence at address, and have each been optimized to promote phenomenal distance as well as fantastic feel and sound, thanks to the vibration-dampening qualities of the Speed Pocket polymer and multi-material badge.

TaylorMade engineers carefully managed the distance-gaps between each SpeedBlade iron by meticulously controlling loft, face thickness, CG location, shaft characteristics, club-length and, most importantly, the behavior of the Speed Pocket. The result is a complete iron set that delivers balanced and consistent gaps between every club. And as drivers, fairway woods and Rescue clubs have evolved to deliver more and more distance, TaylorMade engineers designed SpeedBlade to close the gap between the longest iron and the shortest metalwood in your bag.

New elongated Speed Pocket
Faster face and more ball speed in the center, down low, toward the toe and toward the heel

Easy to launch on a high and strong flight

Individually engineered heads
Optimized distance, trajectory, control, spin, feel and sound

Advanced head structure, Speed Pocket polymer and multi-material badge
Absorbs unwanted vibration to promote fantastic sound and feel

Balanced distance gaps between each iron
Every iron is valuable; closes gap between longest iron and lowest metalwood

Bending notch
Easier to bend for loft and lie adjustments

Rocketbladez are awesome clubs and in my opinion the best cast iron in golf. The genius part about it as a distance iron is that distances in the long irons are not bunched. With the rocketbladez you get the look of a ping I20 with closer forgiveness to the G20 line and for me the Rbladez 4 iron was 4 yds longer carried higher stopped quicker than my i20 3 iron. Looks like the SpeedBlade improves slightly on a great iron

David McKeown says:

Hi Rick, love your video’s. I am very intrested in your yellow V blue TM. I just spent $1000 on rocketbladz and Im pretty pissed off with TM at the moment.

nick barak says:

the replay is annoying just saying

Rick Shiels Golf says:

Thanks for watching. Rick

Drift Wood says:

Yeah good review thx

Ray M says:

Garbage! In 6 months they will claim to have a set that will go 20 yards further. A 6 iron with 23 degrees of loft perharps. I am all for getting more distance but don’t claim it because of some stupid speed slot. It’s all in the loft and length. TM are marketing geniues, so I can’t take that away from them. Look at all you buying clubs from them every 6 months.

Brian D says:

These are seriously awesome clubs. I found a brand new set on Ebay for $350 shipped. I’ve only hit them into the net at home but the feel and snap into the ball is superb. They’re lighter in swing weight than my Mizuno forged MX 200’s. I am positive I’m getting more club head speed with the speedblades. Can’t wait to game them next week.

Darth Fader says:

Great review. With the next video comparing the rocketbladez can you also show the height difference on each shot?

lethomadness says:

Jaydubb Whizzle says:

Thanks for the review.  I noticed you said that these clubs are longer shafted than the average clubs.  I generally have to add a half inch to my irons.  Would you suggest adding the extra half inch to these given they are longer than normal?

Marti Davies says:

big fan of rick so strange how much he has change as a golfer and a youtuber lol for the better though great review as always

Sgt Pepper says:

Good vid,thumbs up

Rick Shiels Golf says:

Great contest coming soon

Jake Woolstenhulme says:

Great video as all have been, that I have seen. Tried both the aero burner and speed blades after watching your reviews of them and about $800 US dollars later and 1 annoyed wife, I am hitting longer and straighter then ever.

James Brady says:

Yeah but what about MY “Speedblade Irons”?? The ones I ordered from Dicks Sporting Goods….The cheap garbage knockoffs that I received ?? Taylormade makes a set of “Speedblade” irons WITHOUT THE SPEEDPORT cut into the headsa!!1 Thats right! I ordered a set thinking I would get what was shown in the pictures but instead got a pile of garbage cheap knockoffs, that look exactly the same, same name, same shape, color and size except they were NOT the real thing. I don`t know which is worse, Taylormade for making these cheap knockoffs and calling them the exact same thing or Dicks Sporting Goods for selling them. But Ya got CAUGHT this time. Complete BS!! Ive loved my phone calls to corporate. Getting great publicity. People are sick and tired of this shit from these multi billion dollar companies. Its not enough that you sell these items at ridiculously high prices but you have to try to cheat people on top of that. Sorry no good worthless pieces of shit!

sean craig says:

The 3 iron is 17* and i can hit it square almost every time, i could never do that with a 2 iron so i don’t know what Taylormade is doing but it works.

Andrew Baynes says:

Rick, good vid – we need to see a match play face off between you and mark crossfield

Matt says:

These or PING G25?

Nick P229 says:

You have improved your video making skills a lot since then. I play these itons and like them a lot

GalaxyTrigger82 says:

@RickShielsPGAGolf im thinking of investing in a new set of irons what set would you recommend from last year or even 2 years ago? im a low 80’s player i choose power over accuracy so i like really forgiving irons im playing the callaway x20’s right now.

Philip Otter says:

Great rewiew, thx!

patrick oakley says:

Great vid dude

S.U Productions says:

Nice video Rick
Can you tell me if there is much of a difference between these and the continued versions Speedblade HL as I can’t find any of the originals in store? They look different, do the perform different?
Thank you

B Kelly says:

I have a question. The Speed Blade HL does not have the speed pocket. Does that significantly change the performance of the club?

Eddy Choe says:

Ooooh i love these clubs. I have 3iron to 9 irons and I love them to death.

Damian OToole says:

hi rick, are these suitable for beginners?  i  like these and G30s. any thoughts?

lethomadness says:

i dont understand why do you want distance with irons? just go back a club?

River Wilde says:

My speedblade (2017) don’t have that gel cushion you see at the bottom

Ju's Outdoors says:

I am watching this in 2016 because I am thinking about getting these clubs, and they feel nice to me (11 handicap), and his videos have really improved since this one

Rick Shiels Golf says:

Thanks very much
